Party Obsession: Building a Lego Party
Being the mom to three boys, I know it can sometimes be hard finding a good theme for a boys party. I think having a Lego party is a great theme to choose, and really has no age limit.
The first glimpse into any party is the invitations. The invitation sets the tone for the party, and lets your guests know just what to expect.
There are so many creative lego invitations out there. Like these Lego Man invitations created by Crafty Party Ideas, or the way Belle Isla made the invites look like an actual lego brick.
You could take it one step further like Party Designs in Bloom did, and create the invitation out of actual legos, and deliver it in its own homemade lego bucket.
Or, you could step out of the box, and create something like this playful invitation by Allison Waken.
Any way you choose to go, your guests are sure to know they’re in for a great time. And of course once you’ve set the tone with the invitations, you’ll want to keep it going throughout the decorations. How fun is it to make the legos into decorations! I love the table centerpiece idea from Hotcakes, and creating an utensil holder and the birthday child’s name out of legos like Soak It All In did is beyond creative. You don’t have to use actual legos to create a fabulous look though. Anders Ruff made legos out of boxes, wrapped in plain colored paper, and topped with coordinating colored jello in round petri style dishes, as pegs. They turned out wonderful, and are just as good as any real lego decorations.
Another area you can get creative with is your birthday banner. You can create a classic banner resembling the lego logo font like this one from Homemaking Fun, or you could purchase the lego brick printed banner from Anders Ruff. For a little added fun, making a banner in the shape of lego men like the ones from Taylor Made Baking and Winks and Daisies, or lego bricks like the banner made by A Little Grace and Mercy would be cool. You could combine both lego bricks and letters like Craft O Maniac as well.
Your tablescape is another area you can really showcase your creativity. Anders Ruff shows off their homemade version of the lego cube again on this gorgeous dessert table, and then the paper plate polyhedrons they created over the favor table are just downright amazing! However, simple balloons also make a statement as seen on the table by Party Designs in Bloom. Party favor bags do double duty as place settings on the table designed by Homemaking Fun, and that lego man backdrop created by Janelle of Cake Ink is perfect for a lego party.
If you’re going to have a great tablescape, then you need something equally great to put on it. Whether it’s the lego blocks cakes by Elite Cake Designs, the lego man head cake made by Got What it Cakes and seen on Anders Ruff, or a combination of the two as seen in this cake by Krazy Kake Bakers, these cakes would all make a great show stopping centerpiece. And Anders Ruff shows us how to make a table special with lego head marshmallow pops, decorated sugar cookies, lego themed cupcakes, and amazingly cool lego dots candy. For an impressive food layout, complete with lego pizza, just look at the table by Table for 6. It’s sure to make your mouth water! Of course, the lego party thrown by Living Locurto not only has an out-of-the-box color scheme, but also has some great cupcakes, and cool lego food ideas.
Part of throwing a great kids party is making sure the guests are entertained. These fun games are sure to be a hit. Homemaking Fun’s build your own race car station, classic guess how many legos are in the jar, and a lego toss game will allow your guests to be creative and have a great time. Anders Ruff’s memory game set up to resemble a lego brick will add to the fun. After having such a good time the kids will love going home with a great party favor. Whether you choose a build your own lego magnet kit like Anders Ruff, or this cute lego man box filled with legos and other snacks from Hotcakes, your guests will be talking about your party for a long time.
